As I mentioned in my Goat Yoga article, I am always on a quest to find alternative treatments to minimize the pain that comes with having Lupus. My newest findings is the IV Infusion Therapy.
I had heard of this treatment before, but didn’t really take the time to research what it is all about. One thing I knew was, that it was an expensive treatment. A couple of weeks ago I was reading a local magazine when I came across an advertisement of the IV Therapy at a facility near by. This time I decided that I wanted to know more about this treatment and maybe give it a try.
So I call the facility and got some information about the IV therapy. I also talked to my doctor and did further research to make sure it was ok for me to do.
What is IV Therapy
Intravenous (IV) therapy delivers liquid substances directly into the vein as a therapeutic treatment. This treatment takes about an hour. Its fast delivery, 100% adsorption, and restoring of vitamin levels, is said to give patients an energy boost lasting days or weeks.
There are different types of IV treatment, however the most common form of IV therapy is the Myers cocktail. Named after the late John Myers MD, a Maryland physician, who used intravenous injections of nutrients to treat many chronic conditions. The Myers cocktail consist of magnesium, B-complex and vitamin C. This cocktail was the one I tried.
Many chronic conditions are said to respond well to a series of the Myers Cocktails. For fatigue, pain, and inflammation, treatments are recommended once a month, or once a week for the first month for people dealing with chronic or acute issues. The Myers Cocktails is also good for fibromyalgia, chronic depression, chronic asthma, pre and post procedures and other illnesses.
IV vitamin Therapy can boost the immune system, which can be very healing when you are sick. These IV treatments are specifically mixed to maximize the anti-inflammatory healing. The intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver medications and fluid replacement throughout the body, because the circulation carries them.
It is said that you will feel better as fast as the next day after treatment. This was a huge selling point for me. Hearing the word pain-free was music to my ear. I was ready, so I made an appointment and off I went. Typically patients going in for an IV treatment will go through a pre screen evaluation. It was not cheap. I was so excited looking forward to find something that worked.
Unfortunately this didn’t happen for me. I was very disappointed. After explaining my disappointment to the nurse, I was told, that I may have needed a stronger mix of cocktail and more liquid. They explained that even though I didn’t get the result I was looking for, at a cellular level – I did something great for my body.
So next time they promised to revise my cocktail, hopefully I will get the energy boost and pain-free results I was looking for. I will keep you abreast the next time I try this treatment.
However even though this treatment didn’t work for me, it doesn’t mean it will not work for you.
To be continued……
